Attributes tab

The Attributes tab in the Attributes panel displays the primary attributes for each DMN element. These attributes vary depending on the element type and define its key properties, behavior, and appearance.

All attributes listed here appear in the Attributes tab.

Allowed Answers

Specifies the possible answers to a Question, for example, ‘Yes’ or ‘No’, or a numeric or text value.

Description

Provides an optional description of the element. Descriptions are useful for generating a comprehensive process report.

Direction

Specifies whether an Association displays a direction. An arrowhead indicates the direction.

Option Description
None No direction is shown. This is the default value.
One The Association flows in one direction. The arrowhead points to the target.
Both The Association flows in both directions. Arrowheads appear at both ends.

Label

Defines a short, alternative description of the element.

Use this primarily for elements that don’t have a Name attribute, such as an Input Expression.

Label Bounds

Specifies the size and coordinates of the element label in the diagram.

Field Description
X The horizontal position of the label in the diagram.
Y The vertical position of the label in the diagram.
Width The label width.
Height The label height.

Location URI

Specifies the URI where the Knowledge Source is located.

Name

Specifies the name displayed in the element label.

Point

Specifies the coordinates of a waypoint or anchor point in the diagram.

Waypoints are used to define the path of connectors or sequence flows between elements.

Question

Represents the decision as a question. The decision’s outputprovides the answer to this question.

Required Authority

Lists the Knowledge Sources (people, committees, regulations, or policies) whose authority is needed for this decision. These references indicate where the decision gets its guiding rules or approvals.

Required Decision

Lists other Decisions that this decision depends on. Each required decision provides input data or supporting logic for evaluating the current decision.

Required Input

Lists the Input Data elements that provide information needed for this decision or business knowledge model. Each required input supplies data that the decision logic uses to produce its result.

Required Knowledge

Lists the Business Knowledge Models that this decision depends on.

Each required knowledge reference identifies reusable logic or expertise that supports this decision’s evaluation.

Shape Bounds

Specifies the size and coordinates of the element in the diagram.

Field Description
X The horizontal position of the element in the diagram.
Y The vertical position of the element in the diagram.
Width The element width.
Height The element height.

Source

The element from which an Association originates.

Target

The element to which an Association connects.

Text

The content of a Text Annotation. Use it to communicate notes, explanations, or additional information about the model.

Type

Specifies the type of Knowledge Source, such as a policy, committee, regulation, document, or group of people that define how a decision should be made.
